Single Contact and Information Point for the Free Flow of Non-Personal Data in the EU

The free movement of people, goods, services, and data is guaranteed within the European Union. One of the objectives of the European Union is also to promote the free movement of non-personal data within the Union. Non-personal data includes various aggregated and anonymised datasets, such as the number of passengers using urban transport or the frequency of service usage via anonymous accounts.

To support the free flow of non-personal data, the European Union has adopted REGULATION (EU) 2018/1807 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL.

One part of promoting the free flow of data is the establishment of a national single contact and information point in each EU Member State. In Estonia, the contact and information point is located at the Consumer Protection and Technical Regulatory Authority. The contact address is [email protected]

Duties of the Single Contact Point

  1. To provide information on data localisation restrictions in Estonian legislation.
  2. To forward data requests from authorities in other EU countries to the relevant competent authorities in Estonia.

The contact point does not provide advice on EU provisions on the processing of personal data or process data requests related to personal data. These tasks are carried out in Estonia by the Data Protection Inspectorate.
