The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Recommendation ITU-R M.2083 sets out three main directions for developments in mobile communications technology:
- Enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB),
- Enhanced Mobile Bandwidth (Ultra-Reliable Low Latency Communications (URLLC)),
- Massive Machine Type Communications (mMTC).
The first bands planned for 5G use are 694-790 MHz, 3400-3800 MHz, and 24.25-27.5 GHz.
